About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to encourage permaculture, and wildlife sustainability through information & tools for environmental development. Connecting neighborhoods and communities through a shared love of colorful growth. We use charitable gifts to support local gardeners, schools, community gardens, & neighbors when we can to replenish the stands, and motivate sharing.

We provide opportunities to bring the public and stand hosts together with free events & educational workshops; educating them on varied topics like: how and what to plant, how to help grow and support the local wildlife, and how to grow for sustainability. This concept will bring more food to each plate, more knowledge to each individual and more growth and beauty in each community.

We are passionate about raising awareness on how easy gardening is, knowing where your food comes from and contributing to our impact on the planet. We encourage hosts to look for reusable items for the stand & seed library. We love to see how much our locations can contribute not only to our immediate communities but the world. At Garden Exchange Stands Org, we aim to connect local gardeners and promote sustainable practices by fostering a community of sharing. The Seed Libraries-Garden Stands are shared spaces & a community service for all. We're creating a larger food sovereignty network with these locations & educational workshops.

Etiquette

Some basic etiquette for the Seed Libraries or Garden Exchange Stands.

  • Please take a little and share A LOT!
  • Never knock on the host’s door; leave a note at the Seed Library/Stand or mail one.
  • Tidy up if needed. The Seed Libraries & Stands are shared spaces and a community service for all.
  • Avoid trash bags; they may fly away creating litter.
  • Label your plant and seed donations, if possible.
  • Consider using pretty vases or containers for your donations.
  • If it’s not on the stand, it’s not available. Do not wander in the host’s yard.
  • Only FRESH produce. We are not a pantry for nonperishable foods. There is a whole movement around the cities where they provide those services. (Some things are allowed at times of need & when it is not hot when the food can go rancid.) Remember, birds & rodents like food too.
  • Do not take plants or other items from the host’s yard. If you're not sure, please don’t take.
  • Respect the host’s and neighbors’ yards, and only visit during DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY and keep the noise down.
  • If containers are marked “DO NOT TAKE” leave them for refilling.

While we do our best to maintain the integrity of seeds in the collection, this is not a commercial seed source, and the quality of seeds may vary. If you discover any problems with your seeds, including poor germination, of-types, or mislabeling, please let us know.
